Choosing a Bathroom Vanity Unit

By: Amaan Goyal

Storage is at a premium in a bathroom, especially in recent times, with the invention of bathroom products and accessories that seem just ludicrous, and are littered in everyone's bathroom as far as the eye can see. Does everyone really need so many shampoos and conditioners, bath oils and shower gels, not to mention face cleansers, facial scrubs etc. This though, is a moot point, because all this bathing paraphernalia is already present in the bathroom. The important question is where to store it all.

An ideal storage solution is a bathroom vanity unit. This simple piece of bathroom furniture sever so many purposes, it creates essential space in an area which is otherwise completely wasted, it covers up plumbing leading to and from your bathroom sink which is otherwise quite an eyesore and it also adds a touch of class to your bathroom. With the bathroom unit becoming such an important thing to have in the bathroom, hundreds of manufacturers have come up with countless options to entice those opting for a bathroom unit, and choosing a bathroom vanity unit can be quite a task.

The first consideration while choosing a bathroom unit is to consider the amount of space available and whether you want to opt for a single vanity unit or a complete set. Once you know how much space you have to work with, you can start thinking about designs or materials and all the other decisions you have to make before you buy your bathroom unit.

Bathroom units come in a variety of styles, from the minimalist style to a more old fashioned Victorian style, depending on what you want in your bathroom. If you have a small tiled bathroom, opt for a simple design with a lot of lines and edges, which fits with the rest of the bathroom. On the other hand though, if you want to add a touch of class in your bathroom, the wooden Victorian vanity unit is the way to go. Always decide how many shelves you require in your bathroom unit, and how you want them distributed, because storage is always the first purpose of the bathroom vanity unit.

Next on the list while choosing a bathroom vanity unit is to pick the material you want for your vanity unit, where a lot of options are available. Wood looks great, but is less durable around water, and needs to be maintained well in order to make it last. Other options are laminated wood, which are extremely durable, or the more modern metallic or chrome plated options, which last a lot longer, but might not add the same elegance that a wooden vanity set brings. Another important aspect while choosing a bathroom vanity unit is to look at the finish of the set. A natural wooden finish looks good, as does a chrome finish. There is no dearth of choices when it comes to purchasing a bathroom vanity unit, so look long and hard before you make your choice.
